We are city planning and community development practitioners and scholars engaged in developing designs, programs, policies, and other solutions to the pressing social, environmental, and economic challenges facing by communities in the 21st century. We are educating the next generation of leaders with the essential knowledge, skills, and values to work collaboratively with stakeholders to establish lasting improvements in the quality of life of residents.

The department offers a BS Community Development and MS City and Regional Planning, which is accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board. Both programs integrate theory, methods, practice, and service learning to provide students with in-depth understanding of urban problems, ability to craft solutions, and capacity to act - to make an impact.
